Mark Carney has been elected as the leader in the Canadian Liberal Party and is set to be the next Prime Minister replacing Justin Trudeau.

The former central banker Mark Carney has been chosen as the Canadian leader of the government-controlled Liberal Party. As a result, Carney will succeed Justin Trudeau as Canada's Premier Minister.
In the report by Reuters, Carney received 86 percent of votes to win over the former finance minister Chrystia Freeland, in a vote that saw just over 152,000 members of the party took part.
In January of this year, Trudeau had announced that the Liberal leader would leave office following more than nine months of office as his popularity rating fell, causing the government's Liberal Party to run a swift contest to replace Trudeau.
In announcing his departure, Trudeau, in an X posting on Monday, wrote "I am leaving as the president of the Liberal Party with the same conviction in hope and determination to do the same work that I did when I began. I have hope for this party as well as for our country thanks to thousands of Canadians who show each day that a better future is feasible."
After he was elected Carney was referring towards US Trump, the president of America Donald Trump, said, "There's someone who's trying to weaken our economy."
"He's attacking Canadian families, workers, and companies. We must not let him succeed," he added.
"This isn't normal business. We'll need to accomplish things we've never imagined before, and at speeds we did not think were possible," Carney said.
In a X-post, Carney wrote, "Thank you. We're stronger when we're unison."
At present, Canada is in the in the middle of trade conflict long-time allies the United States under Trump.
But, Carney, a political novice, claimed that he had the best position to bring back the party and supervise trade talks with Trump who is now threatning additional tariffs which could slash the export-dependent Canadian economy.
Trudeau has put in place C$30 billion of trade tariffs in retaliation against America. United States in response to tariffs Trump has imposed on Canada.
